The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety has reported that many people experience foot pain and injuries stemming from their work. While it's difficult to prevent certain accidents, a change in job design many help take the pressure off of workers' feet.
Rotating employees to perform different tasks may help them avoid long-term periods spent standing, the agency reported. Additionally, giving a worker different responsibilities that allow them to sit for some time may help alleviate pain.
When giving an employee variety is not possible, organizations may want to consider installing foot rails for workers to rest one foot at a time.
MSN Health reports that there are several types of foot injuries that can result from overuse, or excess stress. These can include tendonitis, stress fractures, plantar fasciitis and metatarsalgia, or pain at the ball of the foot.
Additionally, employees who work on their feet may be prone to bunions or hammer toe. Luckily, these conditions may be prevented or corrected with bunion splints or orthotics, which may also help users avoid costly bunion surgery.
